The Northfield Paradise
The Camp
The Camp is a 26x36 log home. The camp was constructed by the Blake family almost entirely from logs and timbers that were dropped, cut, and milled on-site. The camp was started in 2004 and completed in 2006 but finishing touches are still ongoing. The main logs are spruce while much of the interior is pine. The living room floors are Brazilian hickory and the bedroom floors are pine. The kitchen and bath floors are porcelain tiles. The camp has a full walkout basement, a full main story, and a loft that is 20x26. There are lake views from every window in the camp. From the deck, there are 220-degree views of the lake. Basement-has one bedroom that is 12x14. A second 12x14 room has a closet and is mostly storage for toys, fishing gear, bikes, etc. The bedroom has a queen bed and a bureau.
The basement also has a kid's playroom and the home's workshop. The kid's playroom has been overtaken with a quality ping pong table that can also be easily taken outside in good weather. There is also a wall-mounted propane heater in the basement.
Bathroom-is off from the kitchen and the master bedroom. There is a flush, a sink and cabinets, a closet, and a fully enclosed tub/shower with great pressure. While there are plenty of towels you will want to bring your own.
Generator-there is a 7,000-watt generator that is plumbed directly from the propane tank and then into the house. On the main floor, there is a switch that will turn on the generator. The only time you will have to turn this on is when you notice low water pressure and need to refill the 60-gallon tank. You can also run the generator to run any electricity that you may need. The house is wired with electric lights but you should find the gaslights sufficient. There is no electricity to the property, therefore no phone or television, which we consider a big plus to the property. In the kitchen wood stove that is not hooked up, you will find a solar charger for electronics. The charger needs to be on the deck when the sun is out.
Library-In the cellar stairway you will find a wide assortment of reading and resource books. There are also a variety of other books scattered about other locations of the home. There are upwards of 500 books of varying subject matter.
Loft -has a 4-foot wide pine staircase that leads to a landing with a 44-inch railing around the loft. The loft has 6 beds and can comfortably sleep 6 people but is ideal as a master bedroom also. Off from the loft is a double slider that opens to a 6x10' deck with two chairs on the deck. This has a great view and an evening drink or morning coffee on this deck is nice.
The kitchen is fully equipped and you should have to bring anything but your food and drinks. The well water is great for all uses, including drinking. but cook with it so you will need to bring drinking The water may be good but we simply have never had it tested.? While the refrigerator makes ice, it is best to arrive with some ice to give you a good start.
The main floor has a 12x12 bedroom that has direct access to the bathroom. The kitchen has a full kitchen with no microwave or dishwasher. The stove and refrigerator are both gas-operated. The kitchen has a table that will seat eight. There is a gas-operated fireplace in the corner of the living room that has three couches, a love seat, and two chairs. The living room also has a box full of toys. Off from the living room is a double door that opens to the deck. The wrap-around deck contains a variety of chairs, a table, and a gas grill. Outside cabin-there is also a 10x16 outside shed that has a bunk in it with an entrance door and three windows. This can be a comfortable place for 1-2 people to stay and is about 50 feet from the main camp. It can also be a good place for the kids to hang out or a quiet chill spot.
Outside storage shed-there is a 15x17 foot storage shed between the home and the cabin. The shed is used to house the kayaks, bottles, and trash. All outside hand tools are also found in the shed as well as equipment for outside games. There is also a 1972 Kubota 6100 tractor that is not for guest use. Utilities-Depending upon your time of arrival, you may need to turn on the main propane gas valve and light the appliances. The heat stoves, the cooking stove, refrigerator, lights, hot water are all run on propane. They are easy to light and extremely safe.
